A contact slide method for the isolation of staphylococci.

چکیده
The gauze-reinforced agar slab method introduced by Foster (1960) to assess environmental contamination was subjected to trial in the laboratory. In principle this method was sound but in our experience the gauzereinforced agar slabs were difficult to prepare and far from easy to manipulate. A modification of Foster's method involving the use of agar-layered slides has been developed and employed successfully for more than six months in an investigation in which information was required about staphylococcal contamination of floors and other surfaces in a surgical ward (McNeill, Porter, and Green).

Background and objective: The treatment of bacterial infections especially of the family Staphylococcaceae is a significant health burden that has led to economic losses, and high morbidity and mortality rates globally. This study aimed at the isolation and characterization of coagulase-positive, methicillin, and multi-drug-resistant Staphylococci isolated from wounds of patients. Methods: Fo...

Introduction: Bacterial pneumonia occurs in most hospitalized patients where is the important cause of morbidity and mortality. To reduce the mortality rate, we aimed to isolate the bacterial agents of pneumonia and determine the antibacterial resistance. Methods: In this descriptive study, 330 hospitalized patients inffered from bacterial pneumonia were studied to identify the bacterial ag...
متن کاملIsolation, Identification, and Profile of Antibiotic Resistance of Bacteria in Patients with Cancer
Background: Blood stream infection is one of the main causes of morbidity and mortality in patients with cancer. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the prevalence of aerobic and anaerobic-bacteremia in hospital inpatients with cancer and to determine the antibiotic resistance profile in isolated organisms in Kerman, southeast Iran. Methods: Total of 240 blood cultures from 136 patients w...
متن کاملWettability Study of Super-Hydrophobic Silica Aerogel Powders
Due to the importance of super-hydrophobic silica aerogel powder as a material in the field of energy saving, its wettability in the presence of various surfactants was investigated. One anionic and two non-ionic surfactants with different molecular structures were used as wetting and dispersing agents. Wetting properties of the aerogel powders were investigated by the contact angle measure...
متن کاملSerological grouping of streptococci by slide agglutination.
Streptococcal grouping sera for groups A, B, C, and G prepared for conventional testing by precipitation were made specific by absorption and used to identify streptococci by slide agglutination with and without staphyloccocal coagglutination. Trypsinised suspensions of 1055 strains, identified by precipitation as belonging to group A, B, C, or G, were tested by slide agglutination. Of these, 9...
